Dungeon Battle Tile 18 – Barricade has just been released for your enjoyment.

“Sometimes it pays to be short. When we entered that room I was able to get close to the barricade and use it as cover which none of the rest of the party, except the Halfling scout, could do because they were too tall. At least that provided me some protection against the missile weapons until we set the tables some of the defenders were standing on to fire missile weapons from on fire. And it was me with my trusty axe that managed to chop a hole in the wooden barricade that allowed most of the party to bypass the pit. Too bad old Barnabas got impatient and tried to jump the pit. He was carrying too much weight and ended up in the pit squired on some of the spikes.” Ardek the Dwarf.

This battle tile features a barricade crossing the middle of the room to help defenders stop intruders. The room is designed to have intruders enter at the bottom of the map while the rest of the lair is located past the top of the map. There is an open pit located in the center of the barricade and defenders can place a large wooden plank , located behind the barricade, across the pit to allow easy passage across the pit. The pit is not concealed, is 10′ deep (or deeper if the GM desires) and is filled with spikes in the bottom (poison on the spikes is also an extra option for the GM). The GM should feel free to require attribute checks (or skill rolls) to successful jump the pit (as well as requiring an empty square to land in on the other side of the pit). There are also tables set up against the back wall which allow defenders to stand upon them and use missile weapons, thrown weapons or melee weapons with a long reach, to be used to attack intruders still located on the other side of the barricade. The barricade itself is made of wooden stakes driven into the ground and interwoven with rope at the top.
