Dungeon Battle Tile 12 – Challenge 1

“You should have listened to me. If we had let the scout jump the pit while we formed a defensive wall at the entrance to the room we have been in a better position to stand against the attack. And no, if we had to retreated the scout could have stayed on the treasure chests while we regrouped and came back so it would not have been like we were abandoning her. The only bad thing is that she might have helped herself to the treasure while we were regrouping. And besides, if we had not came back for her that would have served her right for taking that amulet out of my pocket without me knowing it.” Ardek the Dwarf.

This battle tile features a challenge for a party to overcome. The basic challenge is for the PCs to loot the treasure chests in the room while overcoming any obstacles the statues in the room present. There are two treasure chests on the other side of a pit (the GM determines how deep the pit is). Whether the treasure chests are locked and/or trapped and what the treasure chests contain are left up to the GM to determine based on their game. There are also several statues spread around the room which the GM can describe as any monster in his game world. These statues could attack when the treasure chests are opened or touched, when a PC gets to a square containing a treasure chest, after the PCs fully enter the room, or when a piece of treasure from one of the treasure chests is brought back across the pit. Alternately the statues could countian traps such as a fire blast that goes off under certain circumstances and the PCs will have to disarm the traps before looting the treasure chests or suffer the consequences.
